MONDAY, AUGUST 1ST

HUDSON RIVER KAYAK
Come on a guided kayak trip along this calm section of the Hudson River. This is a beautiful spot where the river flows from west to east. This kayak is for both beginner and experienced kayakers alike. Spots are limited and rentals are available for $15. Please call 518-917-2174 to reserve your spot with 24-hour notice. Cost is $5 for adults and $1 for children. Please pay and meet at the park office.

WIGGLY WANDERERS
Wiggly wanderers is a new program that is offered to walking toddlers, carriable babies and their caregivers. This will be a beginner’s hike/wander series for toddlers who are ready to move and caregivers who are willing and able to baby wear and/or carry their toddler if their legs get too tired. We will not plan too much distance walking and we will rely on teachable moments to carry us through these experiences. Strollers will not work for these programs.
While you do not need to attend each week, we will continue to build our toddlers hiking skills as well as their caregivers’ confidence taking the children into the woods to explore.

POTTER POINT HIKE
Take a walk in the woods on this easily navigable and trail free parcel of the park. There will be beautiful views of the Hudson River and some neat natural wonders to explore. This is a flat, bushwhacking hike. Reservations are required with 24 hours advanced notice, please call 518-917-2174. Meet and pay at the park office. $1 for kids $5 for adults.

FOREST BATHING
Coined shinrin-yoku in Japan in the 1980’s, forest bathing is the ecotherapeutic practice of spending time immersed in nature, absorbing it with all of your senses. The physiological and psychological benefits last for days afterward with the additional benefit of a new appreciation of our precious woodland and its inhabitants. This is a beginner- rated walk along the Nature Trail with long pauses to sit and enhance our awareness of our surroundings and it is approximately a 2-hour program. A small mat is beneficial to ensure a dry seat. Pay $5 per adult (cash or check) at the office upon arrival. Registration is required at least 24 hours in advance; call or text 518-917-2174.

We’ll begin with a nature- themed story time, read a book or two and talk about what we’ve read. Afterward we will go for a short walk outside so dress according to the weather! Geared towards ages 2-5. Pay $1 per child (cash or check) at the office and then come down to the Nature Center. Registration is required at least 24 hours in advance; call or text 518-917-2174.

LAKE ANN HIKE
A Park Educator will lead this hike through part of the woods over at Lake Bonita to Lake Ann. This is a bit of a longer hike but on rather flat land. This hike will take us about 2.5 miles one way to a beautiful bog. There is a lean to at Lake Ann that we can stop and have a snack or lunch at. Make sure to bring some water. Please call for reservations with 24 hours advanced notice, 518-917-2174. Cost is $5 for adults and $1 for children. Meet and pay at the park office.

TUESDAY AUGUST 9TH

MOREAU OVERLOOK HIKE
This hike is one of our most strenuous here at Moreau. We will be hiking about 1 mile up to the beautiful view of Moreau Lake. This is a steep hike and towards the end it gets a bit rocky. Bring plenty of water and a snack or lunch to eat at the overlook. Registration is required with 24 hours advanced notice, please call 518-917-2174. Meet and pay at the park office, $1 for children, $5 for adults.

THURSDAY, AUGUST 11TH

FULL MOON KAYAK
Join us to see the full moon from a kayak instead of the trail. We will get a different perspective of the lake and may see or hear some different nighttime animals. This will be a fun easy kayak around the lake. Reservations are necessary with 24-hour notice. Please call 518-917-2174. Rentals are available at $15. Pay at the park office then head to the boat launch for the excursion. Cost is $5 for adults and $1 for children.

MUD POND HIKE
This hike is a relatively flat. We will start off on the nature trail and head out to Mud Pond. There we will see some beaver lodges and maybe some other fun wildlife. EXPLORING WATER BUGS
Join an Environmental Educator as we look in the water and try to scoop up aquatic macroinvertebrates. Aquatic macroinvertebrates are insects in their nymph and larval stage that play a huge role in freshwater ecosystems. This will be a fun wet event where we will just try to look at the different insects in the water. Please bring appropriate clothing for getting in the water and getting wet. LAKE BONITA HIKE
Join and environmental educator on a hike around Lake Bonita. This hike is around 3 miles through the woods. There isn’t too much of an incline but there are some ups and downs with some technical root spots. This hike is rated easy to moderate. Please call 518-917-2174 to make a reservation. Cost is $5 for adults and $1 for children. We will meet and pay at the park office then drive over to the Lake Bonita parking lot.

Don’t fear our beneficial reptiles. Come and learn about the snakes we care for in our nature center. We will discuss their predators and prey and some of the other different kinds of snakes found around here. Reservations are required with 24-hour notice. This short, moderate/advanced hike has a few steep sections, which will take participants to the top of the Palmertown Range. This overlook presents spectacular views of the Luzerne Mountains and Hudson River. Bring a snack, H20 or a lunch to enjoy at the overlook. COTTAGE PARK HIKE
About 5+ miles round trip this steep climb will prove to be a good work out. We will enjoy a comfortable pace as we climb to the top and as we walk along, we will see some great views overlooking the Hudson River. Please bring a lunch and water to enjoy on the trail. Reservations are required with 24 hours advanced notice, 518-793-0511. This is a very strenuous hike, rated as expert within our park system.

RED OAK RIDGE HIKE
Though challenging this hike is about 4+ miles round trip. You will be climbing about halfway up the mountain range and walking through some special places our educator will point out as well as stop to enjoy. Please bring water on this hike. Join a Park Educator for a hike beginning at sunset. This is an opportunity to see MLSP in a different light! The trek will be rated for beginners and is family friendly. Well behaved dogs on a 6 foot or shorter leash are welcome. Unfortunately, our trails don’t accommodate strollers. Registration is required at least 24 hours in advance; call or text 518-917-2174. Come to Moreau to learn the basics of fishing. We will discuss the benefits of fish and their ecology as well as the different types of fish in the lake. This is a free event; equipment is provided but limited so please call 518-917-2174 with 24-hour notice to make a reservation.
