Calling all young artists and nature lovers! This spring, the Friends of Moreau Lake State Park along with support from the Park Staff and grant sponsorship from the Stewart’s Shops Holiday Match Program are “launching” a new project that we hope will engage and inspire our young naturalists using their imagination.

The park has (6) canoes that are no longer “sea-worthy” and have offered them to us to repurpose as planters. Our plan is to invite youth ages K-12 to adopt a canoe and paint the side(s) reflecting an environmental theme that may also include culture, diversity or a representation of your school or youth organization. We encourage all forms of expression whether Realist, Impressionist or Abstract – as long as it comes from your own imagination! We also want you to save room for your school or youth organization’s (e.g. Boy/Girl Scouts), name and/or logo.

The Friends will provide all the materials – exterior based paint, brushes, rags and tools. We will deliver the cleaned canoe to your site and set it up if needed making it easy to paint. Once you’ve completed the work of art, we’ll pick it up and install it in a pre-designated spot in the park and fill with top soil/growing medium. You will then be invited back to plant all the different varieties provided by the Friend’s Green Team whose members include Saratoga County Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners.

Our target date for completion is June 1st but we can be flexible. The canoes will be adopted out on a first come, first serve basis. If you are interested, please send your name, school or organization and contact information to comments@fomlsp.org.
