The Friend’s mission includes advocacy for Moreau Lake State Park within state government. Every year, members of the Friends gather in Albany to lobby state legislators to advocate for NYS parks and to encourage and support funding initiatives through the Environmental Protection Fund. This important work has a direct impact to Moreau and we could all use your help in sending a message to the state legislators.
This year, Park Advocacy Day is going to be virtual.
From Parks & Trails NY:
Park Advocacy Day 2021 will be held on Thursday, March 4, 2021 and will consist of 25-30 virtual legislative meetings with key members and leaders. We will coordinate seven teams, consisting of PTNY and OSI staff and five to six additional participants who will be individually invited based on legislative district, parks region, and experience in previous Park Advocacy Days. All PAD participants will participate in a prep session, tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, March 2, which will include talking points, team rosters, contact information, schedules, flow of meetings, etc. We will also hear from the Commissioner of State Parks, Erik Kulleseid, about the importance of the day and our advocacy efforts.
Ways to Get Involved
Due to the scaled-down nature of this year’s PAD, we are offering alternative ways for the public to get involved, including an advocacy-related best practice workshop, Park Advocacy: Tell Your Story, Protect Our Parks. In addition, we have created a social media toolkit to make it easy to advocate across your network, and are offering an easy-to-use letter writing campaign that will empower you to engage with legislators. While we would love to be with you in person, there are more ways than ever to make your voice heard!
